CURRENT INIATIVES
2-2-2 Emergency Care Contacts Initiative
The 2–2–2 Emergency Care Contacts Initiative helps caregivers prepare for the unexpected. If a caregiver has an emergency and is not available, first responders can quickly find help for the person who cannot care for themself. The program provides easy-to-remove refrigerator stickers that are clearly visible to responders. Caregivers list three contacts who can step in: one for the first two hours, one for the first two days, and one for the first two weeks. 2–2–2 Emergency Care Contacts stickers are available at no cost at these Collier County Sheriff’s Office substations.

HOUSING INITIATIVES
Age-Friendly Collier is advancing practical, community-driven housing solutions for older adults and local veterans. Through partnerships with the Area Agency on Aging, The Collaboratory, and Warrior Homes of Collier, these initiatives expand safe, affordable options—ranging from home-sharing that helps seniors remain in place to targeted veteran supports and short-term sheltering that builds a path to stability. Together, they prioritize safety, compatibility, and access to services so residents can age with dignity close to home.
Seniors in Lee and Collier Counties who can no longer afford their rising home expenses and risk eviction will soon be able to explore their options through a new Home Share program. This pilot program, which will be managed by the Area Agency on Aging, will match homeowners 55+ years old who are having difficulty paying their mortgage with other people 55+ in need of affordable housing who can share costs. A detailed questionnaire and application will help match the homeowner and renter by understanding their daily routines, social preferences, cooking and dining preferences, and other factors that can impact their compatibility. Background checks and home safety inspections will also be performed to ensure that the program is safe for senior citizens. As Collier County Veterans age, we are seeing a large increase in the need for housing that specifically addresses the higher levels of care needs that include physical and cognitive declines. This might range from in-home care and continue through to assisted living arrangements.
Warrior Homes of Collier needs appropriate organizations to provide long-term support in the education, application, and administration of needed services to our vulnerable and aging Veteran population. The goal of this initiative is to engage with potential veteran residents who struggle in obtaining stable housing but have the desire to actively participate in progressing toward the goal of sustainability.
